Phi Mu Delta Honors Tyler Vanish with David T. Smittle Emerging Leader Award

8/13/2024

Phi Mu Delta Fraternity is proud to announce Tyler Vanish as the recipient of the prestigious David T. Smittle Emerging Leader Award. This recognition celebrates Tyler's exceptional growth as a leader and his significant contributions to the Mu Upsilon Chapter at Robert Morris University.

The David T. Smittle Emerging Leader Award, named after a devoted Phi Mu Delta volunteer who served on the National Council for over 30 years, acknowledges the continued development of an undergraduate member in all aspects of fraternity life. David T. Smittle's legacy of service and dedication to nurturing emerging leaders is embodied in this award.

Tyler, a rising junior, has demonstrated remarkable leadership growth since joining Phi Mu Delta. Initially hesitant to take on leadership roles, Tyler stepped up to become the Vice President of Administration (VPA) for the Mu Upsilon chapter this past Spring. His impact was immediate and substantial.
"Tyler has become an integral part of the leadership core of the Mu Upsilon chapter," his nominators wrote. "He has made an immediate impact as a brother who younger members look up to. He also has done an exceptional job in his position and has gone above and beyond."

Throughout his time with Phi Mu Delta, Tyler has held various positions including co-scholarship chair, chaplain, and now VPA. His involvement extends beyond the fraternity, participating in the club bowling team and the criminal justice society.

Tyler's commitment to personal growth and his dedication to upholding the highest standards of fraternity life have not gone unnoticed. His nominators highlighted his role as a mentor and role model for younger brothers, noting, "Tyler Vanish continues to lead by example every day in our organization by upholding what it truly means to be a good fraternity man."

Tyler's recognition with the David T. Smittle Emerging Leader Award not only celebrates his achievements but also serves as an inspiration to other members. It underscores Phi Mu Delta's commitment to developing well-rounded leaders who embody the fraternity's values of democracy, service, and brotherhood.
