On Wednesday March 13, 2024, three members of the Frostburg chapter of Phi Mu Delta, accompanied by fellow Frostburg students, had the unique opportunity to visit the Maryland state capital. The visit encompassed a day filled with observation, learning, and interaction with key figures in the state government.

Chapter President Nick Mullen, Vice President Savi Roth and Elijah Bird, the chapter's Service Chair  witnessed both the state House of Representatives and Senate in action, as they debated and voted on crucial bills. This firsthand experience provided valuable insights into the workings of a democratic government and underscored the importance of civic engagement.

During the tour of the state house, the students were able to immerse themselves in the rich history and traditions of Maryland's legislative processes. The highlight of the visit was the opportunity to meet prominent elected officials, including Governor Wes Moore and Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller. Such interactions allowed for meaningful dialogue and fostered a deeper understanding of the responsibilities and challenges faced by public servants.

Savi Roth, the Vice President of Membership for the Phi Mu Delta chapter, shared his thoughts on the enlightening trip, stating, "The experience showed us how a democratic government functions and provided us with the chance to engage with the individuals driving it forward. It served as a powerful reminder of the significance of democracy, not only within the framework of our chapter's values but also as responsible American citizens."

Phi Mu Delta, guided by its core values of Brotherhood, Service, and Democracy, views this excursion as a pivotal moment in reinforcing its commitment to upholding democratic principles and active participation in civic affairs. The chapter members recognized the trip as a catalyst for personal growth and a deeper appreciation of the democratic process.

As Phi Mu Delta continues to embody its values through service and engagement, the Frostburg chapter remains dedicated to nurturing future leaders who are insightful, responsible, and actively involved in shaping a better society.
