RMU Chapter of Phi Mu Delta Explores Democracy and Brotherhood Through Social Deduction Gameplay2/26/2024
On February 19, 2024, the Mu Upsilon Chapter of Phi Mu Delta at Robert Morris University delved into the core values of democracy and brotherhood through an engaging session of social deduction gameplay. The chapter members engaged in a few spirited rounds of "Mafia," a game that provided not only entertainment but also a deeper exploration of how democracy can be challenged when critical information is withheld from the majority.
Originally conceptualized by Russian doctoral student Dimitry Davidoff in 1986 as "Mafia," the game has since evolved into different variations, including the popular Werewolf version. Through this game, participants experience the tension and dynamics that arise when an informed minority faces off against an uninformed majority, reflecting the delicate balance of power and information in society. Speaking about the event, the Executive Director of Phi Mu Delta shared, "I am impressed that the chapter at Robert Morris University created an exciting way to reflect on the importance of transparency and communication in upholding democratic principles within our fraternity and society." Phi Mu Delta's mission statement underscores the values of democracy, brotherhood, and service. The fraternity aims to provide a positive and meaningful experience for college men, fostering high personal standards in moral, mental, and spiritual aspects. By engaging in activities like the social deduction game, the Mu Upsilon Chapter continues to uphold these ideals and empower its members to embody the values set forth by the fraternity's founders. Through initiatives like the Democracy and Brotherhood event, Phi Mu Delta remains committed to nurturing a strong sense of community and promoting ethical leadership among its members. By blending fun and introspection, the Mu Upsilon Chapter encourages critical thinking and camaraderie, ensuring that the principles of democracy and brotherhood remain at the forefront of its activities.
